Laptop to TV w HDMI no sound option help please?

I have a sharp LCD and using a windows 7 Laptop, ive done this in the past but recently ive noticed there is no longer a option for HDMI under the sound option under playback, do i need to download something ? I used to just place the cable in the laptop and the option was always under the sound configuration, any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.
